 | Well now, this is one cool release. If you are a fan of the Surfites, you'll love this. Not that it sounds like them, but the sense of playful melody and arranging is similarly strong. very good writing, and nicely produced sound. I can't wait for a whole album! |
Picks: Hurricane Season, Tetsuwan Atomu, Brown Recluse
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
A rippin' double picked opening brings forth a very cool number with muted surf rhythm and a sparkling melody. "Hurricane Season" is a really cool track with an infectious sound. Adventure, optimism, and style! Solid bass and great drums support the guitar work.
Surf (Instrumental)
Distant drums and a howling tape echo play havoc on the peaceful waters. "Tetsuwan Atomu" starts off with a noisy attack, and ends up with a great melody and rhythmic surf charm. A very nice track!
Surf (Instrumental)
"Brown Recluse" uses a tastefully employed melody riff to carry of its charm, but it's the cool chords that come out of the unexpected silences that really hook you. Lot's of spunk and charm, and plenty of listening pleasure. The muted dripping notes are just too cool!
