Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Mustang Lightning - Texas Voodoo Surf

 | Imagine Deadbolt without the reverb and lyrics, in mono, and a whole lot dirtier. that's Mustang Lightning. Some of the tracks are vocals in horror voice influenced by Buck Naked and the Farlowe Brothers, but without the humor. nasty, dirty, minimalist. |

Surf Punk (Instrumental)
The car starts, the dirty fuzz turns on, the glissandos rip, the lumbering bass grumbles, and the drums punk out. Yes, it's kinda like that. Lots of energy and hard edge.
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
"Haunted House" moves at a moderate pace through a dark and distorted melody line. It's pretty lowbrow, with a minimalist approach and yacking throughout. So easy, a cave man could do it.
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
This is a more "normal" song, with a progression borrowed from the Cars, or somewhere similar. While it's pretty minimal, it's also engaging enough to hold your attention. I wish it were in stereo. "Slow Walk" is kinda pop-groovy in an eighties pop sort of way.
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
Brittle guitar, fuzzy darkness, a mean riff, and chunky rhythms prance across the night. It's not melodic enough to really stand alone. It does have serious edge.
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
Indian drums run beneath a very cool melody. The track is a bit Link Wray-ish in the break, but much more melodic otherwise. The dirty guitar brings edge to the party.
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
Big twang and a solid edge add character to "Guitaro," a song that has been covered by the Cadillac Angels. Solid and very cool!
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
Enio Morricone's classic spaghetti western finds new life in a fresh arrangement. The big reverb on the tom toms adds drama to an already superb track. The guitar drives it, with solid bass for a mean edge. Very cool!
Surf Punk (Instrumental)
Minimal primal twang and a dark sound make this riff rocker work pretty well. The stereo reverbed tom toms is a bit distracting.

Surf Punk (Instrumental)
This unlisted track runs very slowly with a dirty blues riff. It's extremely short, and sounds as if its inspiration came from Jimi Hendrix blues roots.
