Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Beautiful Kantine Band - Deluxe Vol. 1

 | Another splendid set of joyous tracks from one of the more original surf-based bands out there. Austria's Beautiful Kantine Band play fun songs with exuberance and exhilarating shouts. Aside from the treasure trove of intros are some mighty cool vocals, including some riding on surf platforms. |
Picks: Trans Pannonia Express, Czikos, Saturday Nite At The Duck-Pond, El Rebelde Del Bariton, Von Zeit Zu Zeit
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
This track uses a bouncing muted chord rhythm and an exotic guitar line separated by go-go organ and fun. The shouts from the band and the low-down grode double picked break, along with the vocal swoons, give "Trans Pannonia Express" a really fun and engaging sound. Entirely cool!
Surf (Instrumental)
This is superb. Muted surf rhythm, the catchy signature stylings of The Beautiful Kantine Band, and horns (keys perhaps) play nicely together for a varied and very engaging track. A bit of spy, some surf, the tremble of tremolo, and a sense of carefree adventure are all here. Wonderful!

Surf (Instrumental)
Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" is the subject of this surf transmuted interpretation of the Shadows version... that's a mouthful, but the track is not. It's a superb treatment, with exuberant shouts and amazing fun. Grins abound, and in some ways, the mood reminds me of the Halibuts.
Surf (Instrumental)
This is a less rockin' track with a delicate lead guitar and catchy cowboy beat. Slightly goofy, very fun, and rich with frills and changes. The muted reverbed guitar lines are very cool, as is the plaid tablecloth sound. Big grin!
Surf (Instrumental)
Slow drama and a slithery combo shimmer carry "Von Zeit Zu Zeit" a long way down the romance line, but only if you don't mind a pint and a stroll. This is one cool track. The harmonica adds a sense of the blues.
