 | This is one chemistry free recording. Perhaps that's because it's in ambient mono, or perhaps it's just low key. |
Picks: Surf Rider, Sleep Walk, Penetration, Walk Don't Run
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
The Lively Ones' "Surf Rider" is played in a relatively straight forward fashion, at the same pace as the original, but with somewhat more rock'n'roll twang.
Sleep Walk
Surf (Instrumental)
This is pretty uninteresting version of "Sleep Walk." It's more fluid than many non-lap steel versions, yet it doesn't create interest.
Surf (Instrumental)
A false start eventually yields to a fun take on The Pyramids' "Penetration." It's done well, and sounds like it would probably have been very nice in person despite some guitar errors.
Surf (Instrumental)
Johnny Smith's claim to fame is done a la The Ventures' 1960 hit, but a bit slower and much less energetic. Otherwise, it's a decent record of a now gone band.
