artworkThis Dutch surf band has carved a different sound out for themselves, with a console organ carrying the breaks and adding a bit of drama. The music is very melodic, well written and arranged, and rich in surf tone. Most of the songs are on the fast side, and all are individual works, each with its own sound and focus. This mini album sports six surf instros, just one of which is a cover not often done, and a mailing-tube garage vocal called "1-2-5," sporting harmonica and fine sixties garage chords. I'm looking forward to a full length release.

Track by Track Review

Afterburner dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Organ chords precede a fine glissando that introduces a solid melody line on surf guitar. Rich and melodic, spirited and tribal, "Afterburner" is tuff track with a catchy riff that's just a little on the dangerous side.

Similau dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a pretty solid cover of "Similau" in the Surfaris' arrangement, with organ added. Rock solid and high energy, this dribbly double picked tune is very cool, and very smooth, with great drums.

Eternal Wave dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Whirling organ descends behind a bright melody double picked with a delicate blend of Spanish and European sounds. Upbeat and infectious, "Eternal Wave" embodies the search for the perfect summer wave.

Attack Of The High Aces dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

From right out of the chute, "Attack Of The High Aces" drives hard with rich double picked guitar. The organ in the break is suitably subdued while being very effective. Sparkling glissandoes and an infectious gate mark this as a great track.

Mr. Elementman dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is brilliant, with a mid tempo sparkle and surf shine delivering a very pretty melody line. Understated and peaceful, "Mr. Elementman" is a very nice track. The organ's mall drama is too cool.

The Impaler dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Vlad The Impaler is calmly described in the introduction to "The Impaler." Fast, powerful, and double picked, this track races towards danger. Fine whammy and dramatic changes with a warm slowed break, then a scream returns the song to its main assault.
