Track by Track Review

Bombora dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a heavy, full throated version of the Original Surfaris' "Bombora." It's much more stompy, and very fat. Dueling dark double picked guitars in different registers drive it hard. Quite strong. A short narrative opens.

Les Anciens Presidents dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a heavy number with ringing chords and dark double picked guitar. The melody is a little complex, but the effect is quite powerful. The watchword is heavy, with an emphasis on big chords and mystery.

Pedro Point dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The darkness surfs toward you, and there's no escape. "Pedro Point" is not quite melodic, but is powerful and angry. Fast, mean, and featuring very cool glissandos.

Woodie dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is an interesting and different track, with an Eastern European flavor and fast attack, big chords, flailing glissandos, and major drama. dark, double picked, intense, and very moody.

Te Huur dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Big slow chords chomp and stomp while whammy strike fear into your heart. The fiery slaughter house of notes between these big progressions is disturbing. The juxtaposition of these sections creates an uneasy sense of something very wrong. Frantic!

Princess Lee dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a very pretty surf 'n' reverb instro, with warm ringing chords and delicate guitar. Warm island images and thundering danger on the waves. The mix doesn't really do justice to the excellent writing.

The Wedge dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

One of Dick Dale's most well written intros is delivered with fire and speed, and shredding glissandos. Dark, heavy, and quite urgent. It's not easy to set this aside. Some interesting arranging and real power.

Le Parrain dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A fine version of the theme from "The Godfather," with reverb galore and stompin' rhythm. This is a very fine version of this song, with darkness and abandon.

Surfin' Nha Trang dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Well now, this is wonderful! Incredibly cool damped reverbed rhythm guitar and dark pure surf lead, and a fantastically seductive beat and bass. Thoroughly enthralling, with not one thing left out. Simply brilliant!

Pathfinder dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dueling extra heavy surf guitars fire off volleys of surf slaughter. "Pathfinder" is a very powerful and intense song that commands attention and lets go only after wearing you completely out. Swirling sounds from tape echo add a sense of space adventure. This is quite a monster!

Keanu Reaves dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Keanu Reaves" is on the disc in mpg video. Big rippin' surf stompin' grodiness with shouts of "Keanu Reeves" and lots of intense reverb and tank crashing. Thundering and unmelodic, yet commanding.

Bali Ha'i dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This live track (mpg video) is totally cool! Huge, verging on ugly, sci-fi tweaked with tape echo saturation effects, and the so-fun melody. The Wangs do this with power, grins, and in your face attack. The reverb crashes and attitude are very cool, and the tape echo swirls just take it over the top!

Le Parrain dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A fine version of the theme from "The Godfather," with reverb galore and stompin' rhythm. This is a very fine version of this song, with darkness and abandon.
