The Wailers - Unissued 1958 Demosdotdotdotdot
artworkFour superb 1958 demos from one of rock'n'roll's originals. Most amazing is the superb first blush at "High Wall." No, it's not surf, just the real thing. Must have.
Picks: Scotch On The Rocks, Snake Pit, High Wall

Scotch On The Rocks dotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

"Scotch On The Rocks" is the prototype for "Tall Cool One." This is much less dramatic, but the guitar still trembles and the piano rules. Great sax and bongos. Primitive for sure.

Snake Pit dotdotdot
R&B (Instrumental)

Little Richard piano, pumping rhythms, progression dominated, and punctuated with shouts of "Snake Pit."

High Wall dotdotdotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

Boy-oh-boy! Slow, tortured, dissonant, and ominous. This early rendering of "High Wall" is just plain evil. This just may be the coolest version ever! The horns are sad and dark, the guitar trembles relentlessly, and the drums are - well - strange. Totally amazing!
