artworkThis is one strong release. It has bite, an interesting and a different approach to melody within the genre, and a magnetic personality that gets calls when I play it on Surf's Up! A band to watch.

Within you'll find creative original instrumentals based on surf and pushing the edge of the envelope. Rewarding listening.

Track by Track Review

Foaming At The Mouth dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Grodie mean guitar tones deliver a nasty sounding progression, with some very nice clean surf tone lines between the evil verses. This is a a nicely constructed tune, showing effective use of a basic progression.

Fun Love In A Thong Bikini dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Playful and skimpy, both in the bikini department and the melody department. It is riff based, but transcends the expected limitations through it's friendly tone. This is a fairly non melodic track, like a TV theme for a cop show or something. It doesnŐt evoke images of anyone in a thong bikini.

Backwash dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Whammy and edge, somewhat dark, and unusually structured. This tune is unmelodic, more of an attitude than a song, but it is quite listenable and enjoyable.

Ain't Got No Surfboard Blues dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

What a cool track. A very slow blues, double dribbled and whammied over a lumbering reverbed snare and low down bass line. It's a natural.

Sex Wacks dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Tribal drums and an R&B melody line bring a dissonant edge to this tune. It's intense and playful, and most unusual. A bluesy guitar approach and some distortion make this cross the genre lines into several other categories, without actually leaving surf.

Fish Taco dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A suave bass line drags you gradually into a very cool number with a driving rhythm and a semi Spanish feel. The edgie guitar tone, combined with dry damped playing and whammy creates a percussive and demanding tune. It tonally reminds me of a faster "Capurange" [Harvey Mandel]. It grabs you from the get-go with itŐs energy and optimism. Totally enthralling.

Lost In Mazatlan dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Spanish themes, crunchy sounds, infectious melody, power and subtlety combine to create a rather spiffy track. I particularly like the fluidity of the song, almost tango or Flamenco like. It has the same sort of chorded power and feel as the Torpedoes' "Spanish Main," but it is more melodic and less thrashy. I love this!

Salmon Creek dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is one suave slow melody, with rich rock guitar tones, and nicely phrased playing. It has an island feel, more Mexican than Polynesian, and a picturesque melody. The drama is not overwhelming, but is quite evident. Nice track.

Psycho Surfer dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

With the manic energy if a less than correctly wired board rider in storm surf, this track angrily disorients the listener with a defined reality filter. Intense and nervous.

Eat Me dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Grodie pre-lunch monster, with super fuzzed second guitar sound created by reprocessing the bass, and a relentless rhythm. Spunky watery cow punk rescue swimmer music, with ingratitude written all over it. Edge, power, strong thump, and very rock based. Evil and throaty.

Swallow The Clam dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Cowboys and mountain oysters, playful slime swallowers, and very cool chord work. The picking is quite nice here, precise and melodic.

The Claw dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a shallowly whammified track with an infectious rhythm a lot of energy. It rolls and it rocks, with a swaying motion.

Heavy On The Cream dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A funky bass line opens this cool number. It has a jazzy feel, almost exotic, maybe even Pink Panther-ish. ItŐs pretty enough, and it eventually yields to a more adventurous thing that has mystery and progressive ideas. Way more sophisticated than your average surf tune.

Going' Off dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Ringing tone, echoed guitar, moody ambiance, and mysterious Spanish bits yield quickly to a thrash monster with major energy and an intense middle eastern melody. Huge, thick, and grindingly edgie.

Polluted Surf dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Big and bluesy, with "Rumble" inspired chords, and a detective melody line, sometimes double picked, sometimes not. Edge and swimming gentle string bending. Quite a nice track.
