Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Variant Cause - Excavating 1980s Pacific Northwest Volume 2
|Variant Cause were not driving the same buss as the bands that opened Seattle up with grunge. They were more metal pop with quite a creative edge. There are two volumes of their mid eighties material available. This one features a surfish instro that's solid and creative.|
Picks: Fringee Lover
Track by Track Review
Billed as their ode to sixties surf, "Fringee Lover" is not all that far off the mark. It contains glissandos and twang, and is of the easy melody variety. The keys and violin, along with the eighties LA tonal qualities, place this squarely in the mid eighties. If you liked The Living Daylights "Kat Box Beach" or Les Black Carnations' "Echo Flower Blues," this will be well within your appreciation zone.
