TyrskyKitarat - Heads Or Tailsdotdotdotdot
artworkIt's been a while since TyrskyKitarat issued a CD, and it seems well worth the wait. This CD is full of original instrumentals that will please. It's a blend of surf and other styles, but is very much dominated by the surf. Creative structures and engaging arrangements make this a good bet.

Track by Track Review

Hong Kong dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A long pick slide launches a beautifully reverb surf instro that's very appealing. Muted reverbed charm, a bouncy and catchy melody riff, and real charm. This is superb!

NEA dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"NEA" moves slowly in a romantic reverb symphony of fluid charm. The Leslie is hard panned in stereo at levels that overcome the guitar melody, but looking past the mix, this is a lovely song.

Metkis dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Brittle surf, muted and large, glissando laden, and circular in motion. "Metkis" is unusual, like a scale exercise set to reverb and the curl, with string swipes and whammy. Quite cool.

Topeno dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Gentle organ and bass support a lovely long-note melody that's warm and island visual. The silken notes flow from the middle of the picture like a sunset in Kona. Quite lovely.

T-Board dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A trembling slow glissando and spy jazz chords evolve into a mysterious and sparkling sing with a charming circular melody line. The juxtaposition of the various elements is interesting and engaging.

Annina's Ballad dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

island slide, echoed guitar, long sunset notes, and the feeling of the islands. The bass calls to the night, and the gentle drums keep time. "Annina's Ballad" is just that, a lovely ballad with a light heart.

Xplosio dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Spunky energy, dueling rhythm guitars, a fine lead melody riff, and a solid rhythm section give a sense of motion and open spaces where the desert meets the shore. Shimmering tremolo and rich reverb.

Slow Gun dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Island slide and slither, palm tree sunset, and a loose vacation image. "Slow Gun" moves at an easy pace, carried on an inventive riff that's a little quirky without being goofy. Very nice track!

For A While dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This mid tempo track balances guitars off each other, one playing a lovely progression in sparkling muted reverb, and the other playing a long decay melody that's very scenic and seaworthy. This is one lovely track.

Shake King
Surf (Instrumental)

Throbbing tremolo in a bluesy progression evolves into dual guitars hard panned playing the thing, but their different textures keeps them separated. As the song evolves their lines deviate from each other. This is a unique and compelling track that bridges surf and blues.
