Los Twang! Marvels - Guitars In Orbitdotdotdot
artworkThe music here is steeped in the tradition of sixties European rock instros, spiced with reverb, stretched with delay, and loaded with grinning energy. Other than sometimes cruddy ambient drum sound, this is a mighty fun CD.

Guitars In Orbit dotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

"Guitars In Orbit" is a rompin' number in the tradition of early rockin' boogie instros, echoed guitar and all. Lots of grinnin' energy and fun.

Swan's Lake dotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" is played in homage to the Shadows' "Saturday Night At The Duck Pond" arrangement, with added dribbly double picked guitar in the breaks. Lots of fun!

Marvels A Go Go dotdot
Frat Rock (Instrumental)

Organ and guitar intertwined in a frat rock instro with the lack of melody that implies. While you won't hum it, you just might dig the party groove it brings to mind.

Luna Park dotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Liquid guitar and a rockabilly beat, along with a central European melody line create a kind of Shadows with energy romp that's very easy to enjoy. The drums rock and the bass throbs as the guitar twangs its little heart out.

Eyesore dotdotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

"Eyesore" is a very cool and moody piece of music with an exotica beat and distant reverby sound. As if the sound is drifting across a foggy meadow or through the concrete canyons, it calls you to another place with and time. The islands are in view as the tribal drums lure you in.

Runaway From Zardoz dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Runaway From Zardoz" is a splendid rockin' semi-ska surf rampage that's just too much fun. It's full of uplifting energy and swimming echo-whammy. The galloping rhythm just won't let you stay on your couch. I've listened to this track over and over, and it keeps growing on me. A splendid piece of music.

The Black Widow dotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Link Wray and his Raymen's "The Black Widow" is played with less edge and grit, but that doesn't reduce its effectiveness. It's not one of Link's more melodic pieces, but it always seems to work.

Rancho Cucamonga dotdotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

This is a very spirited and happy song, with great drums and flying guitar. "Rancho Cucamonga" grabs you instantly, and doesn't let go. Did I mention the drums? Totally great! The bass throbs and the guitar simply soars.

Corazon Loco dotdotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

There's more fun going on here than there should be. Stompin' rockin' coolness abounds as Los Twang! Marvels prance with "Corazon Loco." It's not complex, but it sure does grab you. The musicianship is superbly tight and clean.

Space Tiki Twist dotdotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Damped guitar lines, a glissando or two, a moody lowdown melody riff, and a restrained and quirky sound with hand claps. "Space Tiki Twist" brings images of the Adams Family at the beach to mind. Great track!

Back Home dotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

"Back Home" floats slowly on an estate lawn after the guests have left the soiree. Pretty and swimming in echoed guitar.

Queen Gipsy Witch dotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Rich chords swim while the drums roll and the bass provides moodiness. Then the rockin' song kicks in with a traditionally styles melody and beat. Some very tasty guitar licks here.

Carioca dotdotdot
Surf Rock (Instrumental)

"Carioca" has been done as a rock instro many times. This version romps and rocks, and the guitar swims on a sea of long tape echo.
