Track by Track Review

Devil's Ride dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Devil's Ride" opens with forbidding wind and eerie noises. Then, as the band comes in, the morbid drama of the haunted intro yields to a dark and distant double picked melody that's very interesting. Beautiful chords and a dangerous edge.

Waikiki Space Surf dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

With a melody that hints slightly of "Quiet Surf," this sparkling song is really cool. "Waikiki Space Surf" double picks, swirls, rises on a whirlwind of theremin/keyboard effects, and floats in an adventurous space. Very cool track!

Cervesa dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A "Pipeline" rhythm, glissandos and speedy post "Church Key" flair! This is an energetic and fanciful track with swirling organ and great guitar, supported by solid bass and drums. Excellent fun.

Haunted Surf dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Delicate damped reverb drips out a circular almost Henry Mancini riff. The big vibrato verse changes all that. "Haunted Surf" is a very cool track.

Surfin' Savage dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Fast paced classic surf drama and solid surf rage abound. "Surfin' Savage" is fast, cool, dramatic, and dangerous. You could easily imagine Slacktone rockin' on this one. An excellent track!

Tetris dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dark low-E double picked guitar rocks the opener, hinting of "Cat On A Hot Foam Board." The rest of the song is original and fast, melodic and powerful. Sparkling with flair and energy, "Tetris" is a tuff song.

Death Valley dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Big chord drama, damped reverb eeriness, and an intriguing melody riff, supported by dirgie organ and great surf drums and thumpin' bass. "Death Valley" is a bitchin' track with vibrato charm and a melody line that's not far from the kind of attractive originality that the Penetrators are capable of. Excellent!

The Drunken Surfer dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The surf guitar is great, and the organ plays a period studio surf jam thing for a credible vintage single charm.

Fata Morgana dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Astoundingly eerie and moody, "Fata Morgana" is a stunningly attractive song with profound sadness and middle eastern mystery. The best song here, perhaps in part because it is unlike all the others. Many dramatic and primitive tribal sounds enhance the experience. It's a little like what would happen if you merged prog and surf. Really cool!
