Surf (Instrumental)
Sorta like a spooky variation on "A Shot In The Dark," this builds to a scary intensity. It takes several verses for the lead guitar melody to arrive, but once it does, it only serves to irritate the frayed nerve endings. By the time the bloodcurdling scream comes on, it's all you can do to not look over your shoulder.
Surf (Instrumental)
A little exotic, a bit dissonant, "Ol' Stam Bull" rolls at a moderate pace through an ominous surfscape. Short, melodic, and satisfying.
Surf (Instrumental)
Street rod sludge reverb, horror hearse twang... Tremolo Beer Gut do an interesting variation on monster hot rod surf. "Clayton's Hotrod" is powerful and chunky, spooky and playful, and pretty darn big. Melodic and hard driving mid tempo single picked power surf.
Surf (Instrumental)
Pumping spy piano riffin' for the throat, bringing on a dark melodic heavy surf twang. The banjo-like break is really cool. Big monsters in the surf lagoon sound and fine arranging.
Surf (Instrumental)
A poppy melody with a Euro feel with reverb and twangy whammy chords. Somewhere between the sound of Joe Meek and surf lies this interesting track.
Surf (Instrumental)
Kraftwerk's "Das Model" floats on a sea of foam. This arrangement is different from the Treble Spankers' treatment, more poppy and yet more surfy as well. Double picking a la Italian mobster epics and fluid playing. Totally excellent.
Surf (Instrumental)
Big guitar surf twang, melodic leads, double picked lines, and adventurous writing. "Racehorse From Hell" isn't particularly "horse" sounding... it doesn't gallop or stroll, but it sure does work well. A fine track, with drama and intrigue.
Surf (Instrumental)
Beautiful sad surf chords, and haunting big surf guitar. "Sonofabitch" is not nasty, but rather is big and warm, while being a little menacing. A fine song.
Surf (Instrumental)
Big chords, rich reverb, advancing drama, distant danger, and a growling melody with beauty and fear dripping from every line. Fine track.
Surf (Instrumental)
A touch of the Orient sifts through a spy filter while being double picked and bounced off a fanciful rhythm track. Uncomfortable, yet magnetic.
Surf (Instrumental)
Thau's "Las Vegas" shimmers with vibrato and dissonant charm. The big whammy and measured drama add danger and anticipation.
Surf (Instrumental)
Hand claps and a nasty chorus snottily ranting "cool cigs" as the basic rhythm and riffs pass us by. An anthem for the last four smokers on earth.
Surf (Instrumental)
With a rhythm almost as interesting as the Rumblers' "Night Theme," this slightly disorienting track magnetically draws you in with its spy vs. tourist feel and op-pop melody. This would work very well as a TV show theme.
Surf (Instrumental)
Chunky chords, splashy fallen red empire themes, and great surf tone. "Shabby Moscow Tremolo" is neither shabby nor particularly tremolo-centric. It is very pretty in a sad but optimistic sorta way.
Surf (Instrumental)
The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" becomes a whole new concept when instrumentally strained through reverb and charm. Pretty and smooth, sparkling and polished, and just a little weird.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Evilvis" relies on big chords ringing in the pompadour magic of aging greaser rock as seen through the eyes of a longboard exile. Dramatic, and a little deliberate, this track plods a bit until the pace picks up, where upon it rocks. The keys add a different color to the faster second half.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Gangster Surf" is a very tasty number, with big twang and an Austin feel. Surf ethics, urban cactus needles, and dissonant danger. A very cool track.
