The Surf Riders - Surf Riders (demo)dotdotdot
artworkThis is a muddy demo, but it shows off a couple of very cool tracks along with some lesser material. Tracks one and two would rate another star if well recorded. The Surf Riders includes members of Los Muertos Vivientes.
Picks: O Tema Do Homem Maritimo, Surf 101

Track by Track Review

O Tema Do Homem Maritimo dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The melody here is really cool. The frequent whammy chords well placed, as are the glissandos. The primal delivery adds some sense of the real deal fresh out of a garage near you. A very cool song!

Surf 101 dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Big whammy chords and a coastal riff create a slightly dangerous sunrise scene. The double picked verse is very cool, and the up glissando is a great touch. "Surf 101" is a song that surely will rock when all fleshed out.

Facas e Manequins dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Facas e Manequins" is very rootsy and riffy. Not at all as well developed or written as the rest of the tracks here, it has only its energy to carry it along - well that may be a bit harsh, because there are some cool primitive rockisms and some flying notes.

Bar Mitzvah dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Moody and slightly gloomy, "Bar Mitzvah" is like a lagoon under a threatening sky with the wind rising outside. Midway through, it takes on a fast punk attitude with cool glissandos that I think should be a separate song.

Rio Vermelho dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Thrashing circular riffology and glissandos. Flashy, but way more energy than song. All fun, but in the end, it doesn't really stay with you.
