Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Surfers United - Demo 2004

 | Five tracks from Surfers United, who are Nasty Surfer and the Vivisectors. Industrial surf would be one way to think of this very non traditional sound. |
Picks: Surfing Dub, Camel Walk, Antrax, Cowboy Surfer, Cemetery Boogie
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Heavy dub sounds and atmospherics galore generate a desolate and dangerous soundscape with surf guitar and space moods. It took a bit for this to strike my fancy, but it did, and I like it quite a bit.
Surf (Instrumental)
A Middle Eastern melody circulates amid intriguing sequenced moodiness. Big chords, an atmospheric optimism, and mysterious imagery abound in "Camel Walk."
Surf (Instrumental)
"Antrax" becomes a big warehouse of horror where endless near-noise drive a Theremin and desperation.
Surf (Instrumental)
This remix of "Cowboy Surfer" borrows influence from "(Ghost) Riders In The Sky" thematically, but melodically is more spooky. Haunted stark futurist cowboy twang.
Surf (Instrumental)
Many arrangements of "Cemetery Boogie" have found their way out of the Vivisectors' camp, including this doomsday dirge. Part surf, part sterile loveless future, part haunted graveyard.
