Track by Track Review

Intro / Big Thunder dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The massive chords and glissando intro strikes fear in the heart. Then, the power thrash that is "Intro / Big Thunder" rages. It's a thundering surf instro with great drums and major rumble. Fast, intense, powerful, and too much fun.

Shark Man dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Shark Man" is another power rage with a great beat and powerful drums. It's more like an Eddie Angel garage rocker, yet very surfy. Pure flash and power. It wears you out!

Stamp Stomp dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

H... "Stamp Stomp" is heavy, dirty, pounding, surf jammin', and is structured with a catchy melody line and fiery glissandoes. Splendid guitar work, great drums, and grumbling bass. Huge!

Midnight Headlight dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Midnight Headlight" is a fine mid-tempo song with a very pretty and fluid lushness that rides between the strong tone and silky bass lines, and those drums! What a fine track!

Bumble Bee dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Yes, Shigeo Naka can actually do this live, just like on the new CD. There are not enough stars!

Circling like the black and yellow bumble bee that guards my lemon tree in the summer, Shigeo plays every last note, and the result is a stunning surf monster. The drums and bass are perfect as well! Simply superb!

Dreams dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Dreams" remains my all-time favorite Surf Coasters song. They have rearranged it yet again, and the result continues to make love to my ears. Its infectious melody line and catchy rhythm demand a grin. Wonderful, and again, not enough stars!

Samurai Struck dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Samurai Struck" is the title track from the Surf Coasters' new CD. Live, the song kicks major bee-hind! Surf chunk and flying glissandos, with a memorable melody line, fire, ice, and abundant power.

Trouble Maker dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Trouble Maker" is a very thick sludger in dark fuzz tone, lumbering like Godzilla strolling up Tokyo's main drag in search of Link Wray. It shows just what can be done with a well written simple riff in the hands of the right players.

Nineteen dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Opening with feedback howls, "Nineteen" then rages with intense string bending and long power chords. It's simply simply huge, the way Link Wray makes love songs! Totally cool!

Adventures In Paradox dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Adventures In Paradox" is a liquid song with a hauntingly sad melody. Spooky, misty, lush, beautiful, and full of easy energy. The melody line is very soothing, and while the sound is smooth, there's a lot of energy in every note!

Midnight Trooper dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

With a Munsters kinda bass line and eerie psycho keys, this shredder moves from intense scare to pummeling double picked monster in the blink of an eye. A very strong thrasher with racing drums.

Fly Up dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Fly Up!!" has been in the Surf Coasters set list for a very long time. Powerful and huge and fun! It's all about the energy and thunder.

Hurricane dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Surf riff oriented, high powered, and thundering with traumatic tubes. Great whammy and thundering guitar drive "Hurricane" wild. A great track, with the genuine Surf Coasters sound!

Riding High dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Surf Coasters continue to drive "Riding High" with high energy and raw edge. It's a thundering riff rocker with major power and incredible fun. Amazing energy!

Summertime Blues - Tsunami Struck dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Summertime Blues" is a very fun surf rifer at the hands of the Surf Coasters, with a liquid flow and a lot of energy. Great drums and bass thunder! "Tsunami Struck" is still a rock anthem, rising to a very powerful crescendo, and accented by those wonderful screams of "wah!"

Bike Men dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Bike Men!" thunders through a friendly and engaging basic progression with power and intense drive. Great chunky, aggressive, playful plunder.

Let's Go Trippin' dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dick Dale's first instrumental is a classic. It is well served by this performance. There's no doubt that the Surf Coasters have fun with this song. Great drums and bass!

Intruder dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Intruder" is very much a signature song for the Surf Coasters. There are no versions that don't rate top honors. Powerful, and very well played! A great track!

Cyclone dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Cyclone" is an aggressive surf pounder based on a progression riff that's delivered at lightning speed. The drums are exceptional, but then so are the guitar and bass.
