The Surf Coasters featuring Ryoichi Endo - Light My Firedotdotdot
artworkThis CD single meanders around several genres, but is most influenced by punk. Very little here of the Surf Coasters' classic surf onslaught, yet it's an intense and powerful 4 song release. The title track features vocals from Ryoichi Endo of the Ends.
Picks: Light My Fire, Drive Out!, The Clash, Twister

Track by Track Review

Light My Fire dotdotdot
Psychedelic Pop Swirl (Vocal)

An eerie insane sound and a pumpin' organ launch into a manic drugged out version of "Light My Fire" with Ryoichi Endo singing lead in front of the Surf Coasters. It's entirely cool, though not even slightly related to surf.

Drive Out! dotdotdot
Garage Fuzz Surf (Instrumental)

Ultra thrashy trashy fuzzed pumped garage rage, like Davie Allan in front of a punk band. The whirling organ circles the assaultive guitar as the bass throbs and the drums pound. Fiery double picked lines, and super fast power. Monstrous, despite only a passing relationship to surf.

The Clash dotdotdotdot
Acoustic Flamenco (Instrumental)

"The Clash" has been issued in full surf monster form before (Surf Panic '95, Fly Up, and live on Extra CD for Tower). This is a new acoustic arrangement with an almost flamenco feel and lots of energy. It's infectious and very cool.

Twister dotdotdot
Punk (Instrumental)

This is a thrashy hard driving early live recording of "Twister," which appears on L'esprit. Manic pumpin' distorto grande, with punk assault and compressed guitar. Very loud.
