Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Soundsations - Shout (Introducing The Ramrods)

 | Before they were The Soundsations, this Grand Rapids band was called The Ramrods. There are four locally issued instros here, including a very cool surf cover of "El Cumbanchero." |
Picks: El Cumbanchero, Frankie And Johnny
Track by Track Review
Rock (Instrumental)
You can tell it's 1963 as surf has crept into The Ramrods' sound. This is a very nice surf arrangement of Rafael Hernandez Marin's classic song. Great rolling drums youthful energy. This is all cool!
Surf (Instrumental)
Cowboys and surf and twang romp through this version of "Frankie And Johnny." Its energy is strong, its twang cool, and its exuberance inviting. Big grins here!
Rock (Instrumental)
Classic fifties b-side riff rock with a cycling main riff. Done quite well, "Flyin' Saucer Twist" is a fun listen even if it's very derivative. The classic drum rant is too cool!
Rock (Instrumental)
"Twistin' Boogie" is a stereotypical fifties guitar boogie. More fun than cool, and certainly not memorable among the sea of such b-side instros.
