Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Silencers - Spaceman vs. Matt Helm

 | Early single for Michigan's premier surf twisters. This is more surfy than their CD, but all the hints of their current dementia are already evident. It may be hard to find, but it is a good single. I like the hand-colored appearance of the artwork on the sleeve. |
Picks: Matt Helm, Spaceman
Track by Track Review
SpySurf (Instrumental)
Quiet wah-wah under a "Satan was an acid head" sample. OK, so that's dumb, but the track is a drum driven riff with an infectious structure. Not melodic at all, but somehow they overcome the riff-rock nature of it with subtle chords and machine gun suave work and surfy sounds.
Savage Surf Grind (Instrumental)
Countdown sample, then a scream, then stinging high note vibrato guitar, and finally, a heavy progression on the low-E. Powerful, but not too melodic. It seems to substitute loud for quality.
