Los Shain's - El Ritmo De Los Shainsdotdotdot
artworkThis is a great period release from Peru's Los Shains. This 1966 album is half instrumental, and most of that is surf with go-go organ added. There's also an mpeg video using the audio from "Shains A-Go-Go" and home movie footage of the very young band that was Los Shains! Very groovy!
Picks: Shains A-Go-Go, Agente Secreto, El Bano del Pajaro Tablista, El Sabor de la Miel, Ciudad de Rompientes, Misirlou, Ella no esta Alli

Shains A-Go-Go dotdotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

Hot rockin' speedy near surf twango from Los Shains. This is a ripper with a bunch-o-spunk and fire. The vocal verse is limited to uttering the title a coupe of times. Frat with soul and charm, and a whole lot of energy. The lead guitar and drums are pretty cool!

Agente Secreto dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Intense tone and twang deliver a solid instrumental version of Phil Sloane's TV theme made famous by Johnny Rivers. The chorus sings the title at the requisite points, but otherwise, "Agente Secreto" is a twangin' spyster with spunk and edge. One odd thing is that the band seems to slow down at one point just slightly, as if they are losing their place, but then pick it up again.

El Bano del Pajaro Tablista dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a raucous cover of The Trashmen's "Bird Bath," with surf tone and all the vocalizations required. Totally fun, full of life, and pumping good fun.

El Sabor de la Miel dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Double picked twango opens Bobby Scott and Ric Marlow's "El Sabor de la Miel." Based on a number of sixties versions, this is spunky and fun, and the organ in the middle just whistles! Quite nice.

Ciudad de Rompientes dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Trashmen's "Tube City" is tumbled and rumble as the tom toms do their due diligence and the guitar twangs and churns. This is a pretty solid version, with great drums and reverb.

Misirlou dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is to Dick Dale's version like The Lively Ones' is, but much less driven. The lead guitar is back in the mix and the bass too upfront. The energy is there, and the drums rock.

Ella no esta Alli dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a really cool instro version of The Zombies' "She's Not There." The guitar does the lead honors, but the organ adds a pre-psych go-go feel. Totally cool!
