Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Sex On The Beach - Do You Wanna Some Sex On The Beach? | Sex On The Beach sounds nothing like the cover art suggests. Heavy guitar tone, surf riffs, often very good drums, and grumbling bass. Often more riff and style than melody, yet it's originality and flair are attractive. I particularly like "1 Oz Peach Schnaps." |
Picks: 2 Oz Vodka, 1 Oz Peach Schnaps, 2 Oz Cranberry Juice (E Permitido Fumar), 2 Oz Orange Juice
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
"2 Oz Vodka" is part surf, part Munsters, and sounds punchy. It only slightly rises above riff rock via glissandos and charm. The rock break is quite non-surf. Still, it's easy enough to like.
Surf (Instrumental)
This is "Pipeline"-esq, with some very cool chords, and a Rumblers feel, though a lot grodier. "1 Oz Peach Schnaps" may be simple and riffy, and have a rock break, but I found it to be pretty satisfying.
2 Oz Cranberry Juice (E Permitido Fumar) Surf (Instrumental)
Part undulating grit, part playful guitar riff, "2 Oz Cranberry Juice (E Permitido Fumar)" is a lighter track with a garage tinged feel. Mostly a riff and a grin.
Surf (Instrumental)
Great drums roll while bass rumbles, and the guitar plays edgy whammy chords and a gritty riff. "2 Oz Orange Juice" has some bright moments, particularly the break. Grumble on!
Blues (Instrumental)
"2 Oz Pineapple Juice" is a blues jam with tuff drums and sparse bass. It's pretty fun, but not really memorable.
