artworkBetter than the CD single by a lot, but no surf here my friends. There is one instro that may find a play or two on Surf's Up!, but that's all. As New Age Prog goes, this is more like sleepcore. If you want an ambient mood setter, this is good. To sit and listen to, or to drive down the highway to... forget it.

Track by Track Review

The Tones Of Peloponnesus dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Wind sounds and a guitar whose single sound comes in to the right backwards and excite to the left frontwards, over and over. Once was enough, thank you.

Ionia dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Very slow dry tones in a sad moody combo piece that's pretty ambient in nature. You can use this as a soundtrack to any activity because it doesn't demand attention, or even hold it well.

Parisia dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

More structured song, but like a backtrack waiting for a melody line or vocal. When the lead does emerge, it's so buried to the right at low levels that it's almost unnoticed. It has no particularly distinguishing characteristics. Eventually, a harmonica comes in doing a backtrack fill thing like might have been appropriate for Scott Mackenzie or Neil Diamond.

Acquatica dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Progressive for desert rats. A step up from sleepcore, but a small one at that.

All Fish Go To Heaven dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

New Age soundtrack for a South American journey to Machu Boredchu.

The Isle Of Caldra dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Tribal drums and eerie sounds and lots of atmosphere.

Deserted Shores dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Gentle double picked guitar lines and ethereal sounds. It's pretty eerie and pretty.

Improvia dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Sparse and spacie.

Angelica dotdotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Evil tonality and chorale keys provide heavy syrup. Progressive post ambient backtrack music for you to create some focus over the top of. I don't find Scenic to be particularly interesting or demanding of attention. Excellent background for your work-a-day world, but forget it for focused listening. It just goes on and on, never arriving anywhere, and the journey is not marked by any interesting stations along the way. Like a Greyhound bus between stations, there seems to be no end in sight. Tedious listening.

Dronia dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

This reminds me heavily of the backtrack to Thunderclap Newman, except they never seem to arrive.

The Ionic Curve dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Backwards and forwards and feedback... Inspired by Jim Thomas but never being that good.

Aga Aludoma dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Turning noodling towards the Middle East.

Sidereal Hands At The Temple Of Omphalos dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

The intro features really great sampled rain and wind, and it moves gradually into the exotic East.

Modula Raga dotdotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

Really cool thundering ringing feedback track with an eventually arriving real beat and some direction.

Et Tu Dronius dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

The name says it... I found it to be unlistenably boring.

Untitled dotdot
Southwest Desert Island Ambient Soundtrack (Instrumental)

No title, no track mark. Located at -7:30 after several minutes of silence. It has a churchy wind driven sound, and heavy chords on the mighty Wurlitzer.
