The Sand-Dunes - Attack Of The Bloodbeast From Outer Space!!dotdotdot
artworkThis Sand-Dunes CD finds them in high spirits and solid form. The big power and the fast pace simply says fun. The overall sound is much like a guttier version of the Boss Martians.

A Day At The Beach dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"A Day At The Beach" sports the sorta rhythm that accompanied the Slickee Boys' "When I Go To The Beach." It's an infectious and very fun track with rapid fire energy and major optimism. This is one fine track, with sporty glissandoes and a happy grin.

Rhino Chaser dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Chunky low-E surf with the lead guitar pretty low and a whirling console organ. It's got a ton of energy and rhythmic drive, and some fiery glissandoes.

Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Damped surfy sounds with organ, and a circular riff that yields to a cool break. It's just now melodic enough, but it sure is a carnival wonder.

Bettysphere dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Crunchy fuzzed reverbed guitar and churchy organ, with a riff that's very close to "Comin' Home Baby." The warbly vibrato adds a charm that transcends the derivative riff. All in all, a nice track.

The Latte Incident dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Caffeine and storm chop, and a subtle melody riff that should be much farther forward. The surf rhythms work well, and the vibrato shiver brings chills to some verses. Excellent whammy and a fine whine.

Hula Morbidda dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dangerous slow reverb kicks through vibrato and a haunted organ intro precede a thrashing backtrack and a riff like "A Shot In The Dark" at the beach. Big power and twang, with small combo organ. Quite a tasty track.

The Moon Of Manakoora dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Moon Over Manakoora" is a slow "Adventures In Paradise" sorta number, waiting for Lelani to undulate her hula skirt at the luau. Tasty, romantic, and shimmering with vibrato and darn spiffy whammy chords. The dribbling double picked leads slows and gentle tell of outriggers outside the surf line.

Lemon Scented Germs dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Woah, I never new lemons could be so chunky! A fast paced thrasher with more oomph than polish. This is a driven piece with excellent power and churchy organ subdued appropriately. "Lemon Scented Germs" has the feel of a frat rock B-movie theme.

Showdown At Rocky Point dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The rhythm is dominated by excellent damped surf chops, with a melody riff like the Boss Martians' "XK-E" style filtering "Wild As The Sea" through their fast pop sound, but with tuff glissandoes that bully and mariachi horns in the break. Very cool.

Music To Bowl By dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

More rock than surf, this is warm and sunny, but more from the shore. The beat is infectious and the fast vibrato lead parts are more than just charming. Throbbing with fun.

Mr. Moto's Midnight Run dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Mr. Moto's Midnight Run" is an interesting merger of the Belairs' "Mr. Moto" and the Super Stocks' "Midnight Run." The damped reverbed rhythm guitar sets up a solid base for "Mr. Moto" while providing seamless transitions into "Midnight Run." Lots of sporty energy, and excellent changes. This is a perfect medley, so obvious in hindsight.

Into The Maniacal Abyss dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Into The Maniacal Abyss" is much like Man or Astro-MAN?, with much ado about progressions and glissandoes, but shy a real melody. Lot's of power, but not enough melody.

The Deep Sleep dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"The Deep Sleep" is as you might expect, a very sleepy sorta number, like an afternoon daydream of warm sun and gentle breezes. Quite pretty, especially the vibrato verses.
