The Penetrators - Hit The Jet Stream With The Penetratorsdotdotdotdot
artworkThis is a mighty fine ep from the founding fathers off the Southern Surf Syndicate and the main purveyors of speedy doublepick in the mighty South. It demands an answer to the question, when the Hell are they gonna do another album? The tracks are interspersed with thematic chatter, beginning with the pilot's mission briefing, and including the survival kit contents check, the approach to Moscow, departing pilot's preflight greeting, sightseeing tips, and the return to Tuscaloosa.
Picks: High Tide, Triple-Dog Dare, Speed Bump, Crash

Track by Track Review

High Tide dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Totally shredding hot playing from the Southern Surf Syndicate's chief agents. It's not loud, but so spirited that it almost hurts. Very surfy, and picked faster than anything to date. Yikes!

Triple-Dog Dare dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A rhythmic track, with really nifty lead and rhythm interplay in the bridge. I was surprised how much I liked this, initially giving it 3 stars. It grows on you, but so do warts. No, really, I like this a lot, and I was unexpectedly taken in by the infectious nature of the song. Very fine track.

Speed Bump dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A rapid quirky number with ample energy. This track just flies by, not because it's short, but because it's so cool. Catchy and fun.

Crash dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A nice cover of the semi-obscure surf classico. It is less intense than the original or most of the covers, but mighty tasty and enjoyable.
