 | This is a fine live set grabbed from OuterWave's website. It's quite well recorded as ambient live tracks go, and shows of exceptional vintage delivery. This is a band way overdue for a great studio album! |
Picks: Pintor, Bulldog, Mr. Moto, Gandy Dancer, Exotic, The Victor, Diamond Head, Surf Rider, Yellow Jacket, Malibu Run, Miserlou - Hava Nagila, Pipeline, Walk Don't Run, Esperanza

Surf (Instrumental)
Jack Irvin's "Pintor" is well very done, and is very well captured live. The song is cool enough, but at the hands of OuterWave, it is quite lovely.
Surf (Instrumental)
The Fireballs' classic "Bulldog" when done with reverb gets very wet. This is a fine and direct traditional performance. Excellent!
Surf (Instrumental)
This is a very traditional reverbed treatment of "Mr. Moto." It's such a cool song anyway, and in deluxe reverb, it's just that much cooler. Nice job.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Gandy Dancer" is one of those under covered songs that's pretty fun and very inviting. While very straight forward, the enjoyment factor is quite high.
Surf (Instrumental)
The arrangement of this often covered surf classic is borrowed from Bob Vaught and the Renegaids, but is so much more reverby, and smoother via a bit of a relaxed delivery. Really nice!
Surf (Instrumental)
One of Dick Dale's coolest and most dramatic instros, "The Victor" is done with an eye on the outboard's magical liquefication and the easy flow of the double picked notes. I like this take a lot.
Surf (Instrumental)
OuterWave gives Danny Hamilton song "Diamond Head" a purely liquid arrangement that's hard not to like. It's tracks like this that illustrate the magic of the outboard.
Surf (Instrumental)
This is simply a very honest take of the Lively Ones' version. It sounds at times as if one of the guitars is out of tune, but that doesn't seem to matter much.
Surf (Instrumental)
The Ventures' "Yellow Jacket" provides a look back into a much more innocent time in music. OuterWave gives it warmth and spunk.
Surf (Instrumental)
Randy Holden's superb "Malibu Run" sounds really great here. It's much less intense, and probably not as loud as the Fender Four would have done it, but it sure does sound good. It's such a cool song anyway, and it lends itself to OuterWave's brand of trad. Excellent.
Surf (Instrumental)
Two of the Dickster's signature instros are done with oomph and style. Rich playing and solid energy pour from the reverb. Very nice.
Surf (Instrumental)
The artistry that is "Pipeline," and the imagery it offers are what has kept it in so many sets for so long. Excellent muted reverb rhythm and tremolo shimmered lead just make this so cool.
Surf (Instrumental)
Based on the 1960 version from the Ventures, this performance is very nicely done, and captures much of the spirit of that time.
Surf (Instrumental)
I've liked this Dick Dale song since first hearing it live a couple of years before it made it to disc. OuterWave dribble out the reverbed notes like they are pouring from a mountain stream. Just lovely.
