artworkWhile these tracks are live and ambiently recorded, they are well played and relatively well recorded. What these tracks do, aside from please, is make you wonder why there isn't a great studio album from these guys!
Picks: Bullwinkle, Latin'ia, Our Favorite Martian, The Big Push, Squad Car, Runaway, Jack The Ripper

Track by Track Review

Bullwinkle dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a lovely and moody version of the Centurions' "Bullwinkle." Unlike the darkness and danger of the original, OuterWave brings out the beauty of the melody in a lush reverbed presentation. Very cool!

Latin'ia dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is pretty close to the Sentinals' arrangement. It sports beautiful liquid guitar and polish reverb. This splendid song from the pen of Tommy Nunes was never done as well as his original, but the sultry beauty here approaches that. Very nice!

Our Favorite Martian dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Bobby Fuller's catchy classic is very nicely done in a straight traditional fashion. You can see Fuller if you just close your eyes. Very true to the original.

The Big Push dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Cool stinging whammy chords and a sultry melody turned into liquid surf with a grin. I'm guessing this is a cover of the Cal Green Orchestra's song, but I'm not sure.

Squad Car dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Eddie and the Showmen's classic "Squad Car" is done at a moderate pace with lots of energy and spunk. The very traditional sound of the band, particularly in the bridge, is wonderful. The double picked dribbling Euro siren is a nifty touch.

Runaway dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a very nice cover of Del Shannon's "Runaway." The simple beauty of the traditional arrangement is very compelling.

Jack The Ripper dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Based on the Surfaris' arrangement, Link Wray and his Raymen's most wonderful song is shimmered and throbbed and tribally pounded with liquid reverb. Always a pleasure!
