Toni OK - Guitar Mood Deluxdotdotdotdot
artworkWow, what a mondo bizarre release! This female guitarist from Nagoya City, Japan uses exotic percussion and very strange audio, blending middle eastern riffs and some surf with bits of psychedelia. A completely fresh approach. Not terribly good sound, but a release well worth exploring. Toni OK did this totally on her own, playing all instruments and recording as well. An adventure in DIY.
Picks: UFO, Take Me Away Somewhere, 20 Days At Cairo, Anoche, Bikini Bra In The Surf

Track by Track Review

UFO, Take Me Away Somewhere dotdotdot
Psychedelic Surf (Instrumental)

Murky trashy surf with swirly guitar and back room drums. Thick and dangerous, and most unusual. The merger of psych and surf and garage trash is a little unnerving, like being at Pepperland to see Pink Floyd when Kimberly opened, though without benefit of the Osceola set.

20 Days At Cairo dotdotdotdot
Psychedelic Bedouin Surf (Instrumental)

Exotic Bedouin percussion, a fine middle eastern melody, and strange psychedelic surf sounds. This is an impending disaster, suspended in perpetual threat, while tempting conclusion from behind seven veils. Very magnetic!

Anoche dotdotdotdot
Psychedelic Surf (Instrumental)

Chunky rhythmic surf and moody spy drama in a dangerous and loud setting. Cool melody, fine playing, and a gloomy wash of atmospherics and reverb, with big fuzz.

Bikini Bra In The Surf dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Semi rockabilly surf trash with more attack than style. Pummel your neighbors, scare your cat, but don't let a day go by without this spin-cycle white water wipe out! Egad!
