Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA | 13 demos recorded at home that rise way above what that normally implies. With a couple of exceptions, these are very well thought out instros with solid arrangements. My only question is, why is this a home project and not a band! |

Surf (Instrumental)
This is a fast and furious instro with machine gun guitar lines and ample fire in its belly. Shredding with danger, "Droppin' In" implies short board zigzag risk taking on dark waves. Pretty cool song.
Surf (Instrumental)
Hard driving surf rage fires off with every verse of "Under The Shield." It's an intense ride on a green wall that's going to win the battle. Quite powerful.
Fuzz Surf (Instrumental)
Damped surf rhythm guitar and Davie Allan-ish fuzz lead create a bikers on boards image that's hazardous to your health. Well done.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Sparkin' Suki" is a choppy thrasher at times, and a light surf sparkler at others. The melody seems better suited for a much slower and more silky arrangement, but it still works this way.
Surf (Instrumental)
Dark reverbed rhythm and a circular melody line that hints of the Impacts or Revels at times. It seems a little busy.
Biker Fuzz (Instrumental)
Fuzz guitar again takes command as the pasties fly. More of a biker fuzz rocker than surf instro, but cool nonetheless.
Surf (Instrumental)
The Avengers VI's "Time Bomb" is turned hot and dangerous in this thick assault on the peace. Heavy and intense!
Surf (Instrumental)
Guitars slither with vibrato and charm in this simple and relentless trembler. Slightly spooky, somewhat moody, and charming.
Surf (Instrumental)
This is a very cool track, with Spanish-Mexican flavor mixed with surf and warm air. It's quite a nice tune, and it's well arranged as well. Bullfights appear in your mind's eye as you listen to "Sangre De El Matador."
Surf (Instrumental)
Spaghetti western sounds drip from "Hellbenders 'n' Hodads" to great effect. This is a splendid blend of surf and cowboy opera that is both very cool and compelling. Quite nice!
Surf (Instrumental)
This is a pretty straightforward cover of Jerry Lordan's "Apache." Great vibrato throb and spirit here. It's the Shadows' arrangement surfed up.
Surf (Instrumental)
"The Lip" is a choppy number with a nervous energy and manic intensity. Not really melodic, but certainly as frantic as the panic of a 20 foot drop.
Surf (Instrumental)
This is fun and simple, based on a childhood melody. Its relentless cycling and busy feeling creates nervous tension.
