 | This three-song CD-R trots out new material that's engaging and energetic. Ted James current band the Nematoads have found a groove in edgy guitar and a solid beat. I really like "Rancho Cucamonga" and "Bandera!." |
Picks: Rancho Cucamonga, Bandera!, Egypt Texas
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
"Rancho Cucamonga" is an aggressive and edgy instro with great energy and a solid drive. The melody riff is very surfable, and the drums and bass wonderfully powerful. It's a vibrant track.
Surf (Instrumental)
Perhaps the most surf of the three tracks, "Bandera!" has a surf feel from the tone, and the added organ brings on a slight Jim Waller reference. Tuff glissandos and distant trumpet, plus cries of "bandera!" A fine track!
Surf (Instrumental)
Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet's catchy "Egypt Texas" is much more garagy and fuzzy than the others here, and is stylistically different as well. The second guitar is vibratoed.
