Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Terry Nails - Surf Sounds 4 Summer

 | This is a solo project from Terry Nails, ex-Tommy Tutone, Steve Jones, etc. Only one track has anything very surf about it, but as instrumental rock, it's all solid and enjoyable. |
Picks: Big Mo', Lounge Surfing, Terry 2 Bounce, Tres Palmas
Track by Track Review
Rock (Instrumental)
A cycling pattern in dark tone and detective-like runs runs beneath modern guitar lines and textures. There's nothing abut this that's surf really, yet "Big Mo'" has a restrained short board attitude.
Rock (Instrumental)
Exotic percussion and references to loungy tiki ambiance, jazzy bass, and long leaning chords hinting of "Comin' Home Baby" create a saucy but gritty sound. "Lounge Surfing" is more progression and ambiance than melody, but it's engaging and cool.
Rock (Instrumental)
Acoustic guitar, slide, drums and bass. There's drama and slither, country edge, and a hint of danger. "Terry 2 Bounce" is very pleasant.
Surf (Instrumental)
Tremolo shutter and waves lapping at the shore give "Tres Palmas" surf appeal. It's an easy gong track with an afternoon feel and gentle arranging. Very pleasing!
