Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA | Very loud and powerful, and quite relentless. The lead guitar sound is not very rich (a bit brittle), holding the album back some. Mostly aggressive and commanding. |
Picks: Malaguena, Machete, Rampage, Waves Of Kauai, Zeta Reticuli
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
"Malaguena" starts out kind of pedestrian, but quickly launches into hot power drive and big drama. Lots of dramatic changes, big whammy chords, and dripping springs. This is a serious romp.
Surf (Instrumental)
Big whammy chords, a driving main riff, and a straight surf beat. Some really nice bridge work, and thunder bass. "Machete" is pretty cool!
Surf (Instrumental)
Heavy double picked intensity, with a simple and very effective progression, strong beat, and pumped bass. Clearly all abut dark power.
Surf (Instrumental)
Slow and shimmering with tremolo, but not at all quiet or subdued. "Waves Of Kauai" has a very cool melody, delightful muted breaks, and an infectious power.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Zeta Reticuli" is dark, tremolo engaged, and pounding. Strong jammin' delivery and soaring breaks give it a lot of power.
