The Moby Dicks - 7 Song CD-Rdotdotdotdot
artworkSeven new demos from the Moby Dicks of Venice. It's a fresh sound, artful and dramatic. They are Adrien Anthony - drums, Bill McGlynn - guitar, Jeff 'BigTikiDude' - bass, and Billy Scanlan - guitar. Fine music with demo-ambient sound being its only drawback. I'd guess this is a fun band to see, and would be a pleasure to host in The Pit.
Picks: Hecho En Venice, Santa Fe Roach Coach, Perpetual Ocean, 00 Gringo, First Take Off, Dewey Twist, Rojo

Track by Track Review

Hecho En Venice dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Long chords ring in the surf with a modern and dramatic sound. Tribal drums and a fine melody line tell a tale of sadness overcome, of dangerous surf ridden just for the triumph of it. A beautiful song with power and majesty.

Santa Fe Roach Coach dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

the intro to the song is a rolling drum and guitar attack that suggests a rage to come. What evolves instead is a melodic surf tune with some fine double picked lines and an interesting main riff. Aside from mix issues, "Santa Fe Roach Coach" is a cool song with a sense of the open road and the search for surf.

Perpetual Ocean dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Big twang chords and a deliberate melody line with distant danger and a touch of spies on longboards enhance this powerful and interesting track. "Perpetual Ocean" is an obvious title overlooked until now.

00 Gringo dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

longboard espionage rides among the locals undetected. "00 Gringo" is adventurous and very much a surf sing, with a touch of spies and danger which salt the already powerful and motion oriented song. A great track!

First Take Off dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

What seems like it will be a fairly traditional modern surf epic becomes a double picked and original song with some fine hooks and powerful rolling thunder. "First Take Off" is intense and fluid in the way only a giant tube can power. Very cool!

Dewey Twist dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Dewey Twist" is playful and unusual, The sound is more or less ambient, which detracts from the nature of the beast. Pristine sound would add to the sparkle of the grins and jamming twang.

Rojo dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A traditional surf beat opens a start-stop surf song the way the more adventurous and playful bands used to write back in the day. Very active and fun.
