Track by Track Review
Major rock grind with attitude... not melodic, but aggressive and riff driven. Lots of power. This punky number is powerful and basic.
This is a chunky and rhythmic surf instro with superb dribbled glissandos and great tone. The chords ring, the melody is very pleasing, and the beat solid as a rock. "The Masked Surfer" is a very fine Danny Amis composition!
Esteban 'Crunchy' Lopez's lovely song is very nicely arranged, with great drums and a fluid sound. The melody is slightly sad and very appealing. Its simple flow is nicely contrast by the drums.
Fluid playing and great drums, with a go-go feel and surf edge. "Go-Go Emergency" has a fine melody line and fun sound, with plenty going on.
Modulated guitar swirls as it delivers a pretty, slow, romantic melody. "Born To Love" has nice production values and an easy, almost easy listening air about it.
"Woundup" is a tuff number in the way Stax-Volt instros were tuff. Its basic melody riff is well crafted. The crunchy guitar and drums are the most engaging part of the track.
A cowboy beat and melody are liquefied by surf for a great ride. Caleb Franco's "Izmaylovsky" features superb drums and lead guitar, and a catchy rhythm and bass. The psychedelic panoramics in the middle run atop great drums. The more I listen to this, the more I like it!
Near Surf (Instrumental)
A circular riff and very cool drums couple with a crisp rhythm guitar and boss bass to create a near surf guitar extravaganza. The energy rises as the track moves into the break. It's all fun!
Danny Amis' melody has the warmth and charm of "Pacifica." It's a lively track with a very endearing sound. "Far Away" portrays a distant place bathed in afternoon sun and a scented breeze. Superb!
I expected a soft touch from a song with such an easy name, but "Vainilla Amarilla" is a crunchy rock groove with great drums and a variety of guitar tones. All rock and no nonsense.
Spaghetti Surf (Instrumental)
Superb rolling drums and spaghetti western imagery, with distortion and sustain, and soaring guitars. The long sustain on the chords adds drama to this already high flying number. "Los Amos Del West" starts right out capturing your attention, and it only gets better from there.
This sure is grand! Wonderful muted reverb rhythm, powerful drums, bass holding down the bottom end very well, and superb lead guitar. For my money, "The Hell's Road Truckers" is top drawer! The melody is very strong and visual, and the arrangement simply perfect!
Spy Surf (Instrumental)
Excellent classic muted surf rhythms and a spy melody that's very effective. "Liftoff" is punchy and fluid, and very well arranged. Great track!
