Track by Track Review

Hava Nagila dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Hava Nagila," with some "special notes," opens the set. More traditional than Dick Dale's version, but certainly from that fountain.

Shalom Alechem dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The melodic charm of "Shalom Alechem" simply shimmers under the guidance of Mel Waldorf. A little sadness, and liquid reverb, delivers the song right onto the beach.

Zemer Atik dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The offshore island oasis smells of the warm tropical air. The damped reverb, the silken glissandoes, and the liquid guitar lines are impeccable!

Oh Hanukkah dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Oh Hanukkah" makes for a very cool surf instro, with a remarkably aquatic melody line and exotic edge. This traditional Jewish melody is an excellent adaptation to the brine.

Dayenu dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Dayenu" has such a happy melody! It fits well among the glissandoes and shouts of "hey!" The damped reverb verse is entirely cool! Not a drop of fun is left unused in this totally fun track!

Ma Otsur dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Ma Otsur" flows like a river running to the sea. Melodic and warm, and vibrant. Aside from its charm and warmth, it's beautiful!

Ose Shalom dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A traditional ska-like backbeat and the rich vibrato lead guitar, offset by soft pumping keys, bounce atop a solid rhythm section. Friendly and warm, from top to bottom. Brilliant!

Hine Ma Tov dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The slow guitar pours moodiness over a waltz beat and touchingly cool electric piano. "Hine Ma Tov" reminds me a great deal of the Chantays arrangement of "Wayward Nile." Amazing!

Kol Nidre dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Rumblers' "Night Scene" lends its backbeat to this sad and moving song. Slow Mediterranean double picked guitars lend an air of profound loss. The atmospheric sense of this track is a factor that adds greatly to its drama. Way cool!

Avienu Malkainu dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Karen Dobronyi's cool organ adds to this fiery song. A cool energy flows from this song, amp by glissandoes and a couple of Dick Dale-isms. Very nice track!

Zum Gali Gali dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Zum Gali Gali" (song of the pioneers) flows beautifully through the curl. This brilliant interpretation bounces and invites like a true California surf epic. Very nice track!

Baklava dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Always thinking snacks, Meshugga Beach Party play surf-n-sniff with fresh "Baklava" for the masses. This surely brings a grin. Magnetic and entirely cool! This is an amazingly cool song done in a brilliant surf translation that requires a grin. Magnificent.

Simah Tov dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Simah Tov" (something good) rolls along like 101 lies ahead and everyone else stayed home. Happy and free, the song rolls and bounces with a grin. Warm spring afternoons and soft breezes, with an infectious rhythm. Big fun, warmth and charm, and a genuine sense of surf adventure.

Sherele dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Sherele" is on par with the Blazers "Sound Of Mecca" or the surf insanity of Omar Khorshid. It's a wonderful romp straddling several exotic worlds. The electric piano adds even more surfisms. Great!

Mayim dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Mayim" sparkles with western and surf riffs, shimmering vibrato, and a grin. It's an adventure in island warmth and carnival simplicity.

Hatikvah dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Israeli National Anthem is a spectacular and delicate song with a beautiful melody and fine arrangement. Haunting and cautiously optimistic, "Hatikvah" (hope) flows with liquidity and direction. It's a softer and more romantic piece with a scenic quality. Excellent!

At The Rabbi's Table dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This was my special request, and I was more than just pleased. "At The Rabbi's Table" flows like water down a lazy riverbed on a warm afternoon. Surf sounds, a beautiful melody, and a haunting organ... what a spectacular song. Bass and drums are perfect!

Hava Nagila dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Hava Nagila," with some "special notes," opens the set. More traditional than Dick Dale's version, but certainly from that fountain.
