Track by Track Review

Stratoliner Down dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Dangerously pulsing rhythms support an ominous melody line. The grumble of the bass and frantic drums add angst to this twanger.

911 dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Very dark and heavy sludge surf with a threatening pace and muted liquid reverb. "911" plods and churns. The up-glissando is very cool, as is the dribbling lead in the bridge, where the organ employs a kind of carnival sound that adds weirdness to the song. Very cool!

A Quick Creepy dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Trembling guitar and exotic jungle tom toms, offset by graveyard keys make for a very interesting introduction. The song itself is a bit dark, or perhaps just uneasy. Its sweeping panorama and solid tone create an interesting aural image.

Atomic Spider Bite dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Slightly goofy, "Atomic Spider Bite" is playful and strange in a post surf go-go kind of way, while relying heavily on the surf vibe.

Commie Rat Stomp dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Hahaha - funny title. "Commie Rat Stomp" has a great melody and slightly carnival sound via the organ. Great drums in an interesting composition.

Alki Surf dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Great dripping muted reverb in the intro yields to an organ pumping, sax honking , dark glissandoed song with faux drama and a bit of a spooky side.

Jicketts Speed Shop dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This song rips, especially when the dribbling reverb guitar goes really high on the neck. "Jicketts Speed Shop" is infectious and engaging. It's not exactly fluid, but there's surely a sense of forward motion.

Casa De Carne dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Disturbing whammy chords open this jazzy number. "Casa De Carne" has a bouncy beat and playful keys, as well as the free floating jazzy guitar lines. Very nice.

Code Name Aurora dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Stomp and scare... "Code Name Aurora" has ample spyish styling, as well as surf reverb and grumbling bass.

Lazarus Goes Back To Work dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Lazarus Goes Back To Work" is an extremely original song, with an exceptional melody and rhythm riff, and wonderful drums and bass. Its unusualness is not at the expense of its coolness or surf worthiness. This is very cool and satisfying.

Sonic Reducer dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Cool surf second guitar, reverb drenched lead, and a rock solid rhythm section, all work together to make "Sonic Reducer" a really fine track. Traditional, modern, rhythmically writhing, and infectious. Wonderful!

Jimbolero dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Slow and chunky stompable, "Jimbolero" lumbers at a moron pace, yet its melody line is light and fluid. The juxtaposition of these elements creates a unique tension that is compelling.

Pocket Full Of Dimes dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Pocket Full Of Dimes" is light hearted and richly textured. The organ seems aurally at odds at first, but quickly makes sense as the song transpires. Enduring and well crafted.

El Gravitron dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Heavy double pick guitar, organ, dripping springs, and serious charm. "El Gravitron" is a splendid song with a cycling melody line and interesting beat.
