Los Mel-tones - !Viva!dotdotdot
artworkOverall, a nice cassette from our Canadian friends. It's early in the career, the sound is basic, and the chemistry is much less developed than the band we see today, but there's no doubt listening to this where they were going. With the last two tracks cut, this became the Viva! Los Mel-tones ep on Snatch. A fine cassette.
Picks: Poseidon, Mirabel, Bach to the Beach, Showdown at La Jolla, Misirlou, Carousel

Track by Track Review

Poseidon dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Mighty surfy number with a great melody line. The lads whoop and holler as befits the fun obviously had during the session.

Mirabel dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Reminded me of "Surfin' Cat" as an instro... Melodically interesting with traces of "Das Model."

Bach to the Beach dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Italian sounding number with the keys more pronounced. The "Miserlou" chop-chop-----chop rhythm pattern is very cool here.

Showdown at La Jolla dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A bit Surf Trio-ish of a melody line and structure. Great guitar tones.

Misirlou dotdotdot
Country (Instrumental)

Very much like Raz-Ma-Taz Polka, this is a spirited romp in the barn doing the do-se-do. Doh!

Carousel dotdotdot
Country (Instrumental)

Supper's on boys, and it smells all the way 'cross town. A sweet lap steel against a playful fiddle track, smoother than any boiled cabbage casserole. melodic and fluid.
