The Marketts - The Marketts - Their Very Bestdotdotdot
artworkThe Marketts - Their Very Best are nineties recordings for K-tel, most of which are credible, just not the originals. They have all surfaced before on budget comps. I can't say this is anything more than a curiosity.
Picks: Out Of Limits, Balboa Blue, Surfer's Stomp

Track by Track Review

Out Of Limits dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a very credible re-recording except for the guitar tone, which is quite modern. Well recorded and played. It's not special, but it sure is better than several other remakes under the Marketts name. Mike Gordon's song just continues to stand up to time and many versions.

Batman Theme dot
Surf (Instrumental)

This sucks... it's an over produced re-rendering of Neil Hefty's TV show theme. Thoroughly dismissible.

Balboa Blue dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is extremely close to the original stereo take, maybe even from the original track with minor tweaks and remixing/remastering. "Balboa Blue" is stylistically like "Surfer's Stomp," but for my money, it's much nicer. The easy stomp beat and saucy sax are quite complimentary. A bit moody, and romantic, but with a beat.

Surfer's Stomp dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Very close to the source, but some less inspired sax work at times. "Surfer's Stomp" is simple slow paced innocent instrumental rock and roll, with great piano and saucy sax. Infectious and unpretentious. Don't look for the classic surf sound here, but do enjoy the simplicity and fun. Smooth and right nice.
