The Marketts - Batman Themedotdot
artworkThis 1966 dribble really outted the Mar-Ketts for the Hollywood money machine they were. There's precious little here to hold your interest, unless you like that fifties bachelor pad Swingle Singers chorus sound.
Picks: Batman Theme, Bat Cave, Robin The Wonder Boy, Bat Signal, Batmobile, The Joker, The Penguin, The Bat Dance, Dr. Death, The Riddler, Bat Cape, The Cat Woman

Track by Track Review

Batman Theme dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

Pompousoid dribble, now where near as interesting as Neil Hefty's release, and certainly of no particular importance. Just sequenced TV theme fair.

Bat Cave dotdotdot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

Somewhat influenced by "Out Of Limits," this is more strange, almost post John Barry - James Bond like. Big production, orchestral, and of course that dreadful chorus.

Robin The Wonder Boy dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

The Ronettes' drum intro, and a domineering chorus. Sheesh!

Bat Signal dotdot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

Cool eerie string bending, crappy sixties go-go club backtrack, and that chorus.

Batmobile dotdot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

Like a weird go-go version of Country Joe and the Fish's "Porpoise Mouth," this seems to relegate these fundamentally good ideas to the scrap heap.

The Joker dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

It has a cool backtrack. That's all I can say for it.

The Penguin dotdotdot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

MOR sludge at the Go-Go bar. Like a very distant cousin to Booker T. and the MG's "Hip-Hug-Her."

The Bat Dance dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

Based on "Memphis," but lacking any of it's charm. A riff and grooves to fill between the first an last track. Oh, what shall we play? Not this, buckos!

Dr. Death dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

The chorus here reminds me of the Swingle Singers, too cool for their own britches. Oh yeah, under their annoyance is a useless track.

The Riddler dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

More Swingle Singers and riff based backtrack stuff. Dismiss it, and you'll be a better person for it. The edgy guitar is quite out of place here.

Bat Cape dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

This is almost Hugh Masekela inspired, but those singers!!

The Cat Woman dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

Jazzy Pink Panther inspired rhythm track, and big orchestra with chorus, and... never mind.
