The Birke Maier Trio - Live in der Linse Berlin at Voodoo Gerds Birthdaydotdotdotdot
artworkThese five songs are classic surf covers, except for "Cruel Rider," which is a fine version of Downhill Run by Swedish band the Shoutless. The mixes are over echoed, and often have too much snare, but the music is excellent!

Cruel Rider dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Cruel Rider" is a retitled version of the superb Shoutless' song "Downhill Run." High energy and wonderful surf whammy chords. This song has been a fave forever (well, since the eighties when the original was cut). Wonderful.

Ein Tag In Janschwalde dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Link Wray and his Raymen's "The Swag" is reverbed and pumped, with charm and reverence.

Kopfnicker Joe dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Another track from Link Wray, "Kopfnicker Joe" is "Ace Of Spades." The snare is way too out front, but the nastiness survives.

Malaguena dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Despite being abbreviated, this is a fine rendering of "Malaguena." Ernesto Lecuona's tune has long been a staple of the surfbands. The Birke Maier Trio give it an intense twang.

The Ventures' "Surf Rider" is done with whammy chords and intensity. It's arrangement is not particularly original, but it works well and satisfies.
