Luizinho Y Zeus Dinamites - Choque Que Queimadotdotdot
artworkThis 1964 Brazilian release includes 4 instrumentals that are moreorless in the Ventures camp. The version of Apache is uniquely arranged and very cool.
Picks: Ventures Twist, Apache, Bongo Blues, Guitar Twist

Track by Track Review

Ventures Twist dotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

This early twangster from the Ventures is done with extreme reverence. Aside from more exuberance, it might as well be the V-boys at the helm. Rockin' and fun.

Apache dotdotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

Right from the rising cymbals and the dramatic military marching drums you know this is going to be a different arrangement of Jerry Lordan's "Apache." You are not disappointed. Where most covers either ape the Shadows or Jorgen Ingmann, this is something quite different. Perhaps part way between the two, yet it's more than just that. Very cool!

Bongo Blues dotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

Drummin' up a storm, Luizinho Y Zeus Dinamites launch into a jammin' instro that's raucous and rollin'. It's lack of a real melody harkens to fifties instro style, and also separates it from surf.

Guitar Twist dotdotdot
Rock (Instrumental)

The Virtues' "Guitar Twist" is a moreorless progression boogie (as were virtually all of their instros). There's lots of spunk here, but only the use of Champs' chords and the great drums to set it apart.
