artworkIf you enjoy Los Straitjackets, the Treble Spankers, or the Reventlos, you'll like this CD. This Dutch twang based crunch band rocks and swings, and drives home their point with precision and power. Excellent writing and production, powerful playing and an intense experience into the world of instrumental rock. Track by Track Review

Monkey Ride dotdotdotdot
Cowboy Surf (Instrumental)

The airplane passes right overhead just before the twangy guitar pokes in over a rumbly bass line. The cowboy twang is offset by reverb and occasional hard driving glissandoes. Riffs from "Wipe Out" break up the riff patterns as does big guitar whammy.

Clash Of The Titans dotdotdotdot
Twang Surf (Instrumental)

Big warm twango, swimming pool glissandoes, thundering chunk, and a monster "Mar Gaya" inspired break... a big 'un for a dangerous break. Huge sound, high power, and a suave flow.

Devil's Surf dotdotdotdot
Twang Surf (Instrumental)

Precision twang, driving drums, rumbling bass... all of the elements for a thrilling power twang ride. Long slow up and down power slides and cool damped, almost jazzy, lines. The dementia of the insane midsection is too much fun. The Devil you say?

Templar's Surf dotdotdotdotdot
Knighted Surf (Instrumental)

This is an intellectually piece, maybe a bit like the Treble Spankers, with double picking gently portraying an exotic theme over a jazz bass line and fine drums. Complex and artful, mystic and mysterious, and quite intriguing.

Phantoom dotdotdotdotdot
Egyptian Surf (Instrumental)

With the mystery of Khartoum looming in the distance, this finely structure and dramatic track spills a liquid journey from it's gut while displaying emotional depth. Artful, powerful, and twang dominated.

Gabad dotdotdotdot
Middle Eastern Surf (Instrumental)

"Gabad" is a more basic tune, but no less powerful and rich. The low-E twango and crunch drive home a punchy middle eastern scene, but the camels are replaced by Hummers. Rockin' throbbing coolness.

New Bond dotdotdotdotdot
Twang Surf (Instrumental)

Cowboy rhythms and whammy guitars ring true in this pure fun cactus escapade. Open road feel and mean edge are displayed with a fluid ease. Double picked, crunchy, and solid. The intense midsection is very powerful.

Misery Blues dotdotdotdotdot
Demented Blues (Instrumental)

"Misery Blues" is a slow and nasty dockside blues with a dangerous silkiness and foggy night street lamp feel. The string bending and dissonant sound give it a sense of danger, and the insanely fierce break drives even more into the disoriented dementia camp. Like a Reventlos' masterpiece, it may not let you out alive.

Donkey Shot dotdotdotdot
Middle Eastern Surf (Instrumental)

Opening with drums, evolving into a double picked middle eastern guitar riff, "Donkey Shot" is like a dramatic reading of Eddie Money's "Waiting For Love" crossed with a Treble Spankers' epic. Very cool.

Private Eye dotdotdotdot
Twang Surf (Instrumental)

In the back seat of Eddie Angel's Cadillac must be detective novels that blew out while driving down route 66 with the top down in the rain... and so it is that the Longhorn Devils have taken that sound, built a whole new house on it, and then given it a Ph.D. Chunky and arty, swimming and riding.

Winnetou dotdotdotdotdot
Twang Surf (Instrumental)

Hard driving surf twang, double picked meanly on the low-E with ample power and chunky chops. Surfy and twangy, and very cool. The insane up-down glissandoes are demented and intense. A fine track.

Shark Chase dotdotdotdot
Twang Surf (Instrumental)

A delicate syncopated pluck and symbol duet opens into a big guitar twang epic with a Nashville beat. A fascinating break ensues, only to be dashed on the rocks of harsh twang and high power. Wow!

Saz Chase dotdotdotdotdot
Egyptian Surf (Instrumental)

This "bonus track" sports acoustic guitar, and upright bass, and brushed drums. It's a rhythmic thing with a Mediterranean feel and a hint of the Violent Femmes and the Kaleidoscope (LA) in the arrangement. A very fun track, demonstrating that the Longhorn Devils style translates very well without amps. Amazing!
