Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA | CD reissue of an extremely rare album from an obscure band of a decade long gone. Their signature tune "Lariat" is the high light. They were a pretty typical fifties Midwest Bison Bop band, with several cool instros interspersed between standard vocal numbers. The instros are cool. |
Picks: Lariat, Late Train, Legendemaine, Summertime

Surf (Instrumental)
Way cool start-stop tune with a great melody and a Mexican / Southwest feel. "Lariat" is a mighty infectious fifties bison bop rocker, with plenty of cowboy and ample twango. A great track.
Surf (Instrumental)
"Late Train" is a mid tempo fifties twango bop, more jam than a song, bluesy and fun, but mot melodic.
Surf (Instrumental)
From the great funky cowbells to the shimmy in the jungle toms, this track is nothing short of wonderful. It has an exotic melody line, vibrato whams, and that Cozy Cole slowed down rhythm. Very nice!
Surf (Instrumental)
Using the chord structure that would become so familiar under the Blues Magoos "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet," this track features solid pre-surf twang and vocals that are both honest and hint of the Van Slyke / Other Side renditions. While it's no pick, it's a cool track.
