Die Kosmonauten - Geschichten Die Das Leben Schreibtdotdotdotdot
artworkThere's lots here to enjoy. Die Kosmonauten use surf sounds and rockabilly and other vintage styles drenched in track reverb to create surf and space instros that are quite fun. The CD's title (Geschichten Die Das Leben Schreibt) is a vocal that is also on the disc.

Intro dotdotdotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

Dark and spooky, like surf in a dungeon where the hair stands up on the back of your neck because you know that you are about to meet your maker! This is a huge and very dangerous track that lumbers through your darkest fears. Very cool!

Laika dotdotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

"Laika" rises from the wind to a splash-conscious and space-oriented riff surfer with ample reverb and a varying tonality. The lead guitar transforms from pure reverb to stereo-panned phase-shifted swirl. IN some ways, it's like a blend of the Tornados and Hawkwind, but in a light vein with a bit of gnarl. It grows on you as it evolves!

Kugelporsche dotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

With structural roots in rockabilly filtered through reverb, "Kugelporsche" is a happy stompin' number that's not very melodic, yet brings a grin. A pretty jammy guitar line and chop chords splash and churn for fun. AltaVista translates the title as "Ball Porsche."

Stasi dotdotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

Marvelous dark tremolo reverb swirl with spies around every turn, "Stasi" charms and pleases. Excellent little muted lines and big chord drama. The break is built on Neil Hefty's theme from the Bat Man TV series. Splashy and very cool. Stasi is the State Security Service.

Steiler Zahn dotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

This goofy track uses electro whistles in a kind of stylized fifties wolf whistle way over a reverbed version of a sinewy fifties stroll. "Steep Tooth" is not a serious track, just a very fun little transformation of the pre-surf era of rock'n'roll when gimmicks were still innocent and fun. Very nicely done.

Oh Wenn Ich Nochmal 20 War dotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

With a lead organ not unlike some of Johnny and the Hurricanes' singles, this fun little track is an innocent grinner with a bouncy rhythm and catchy melody riff. The organ sets against the kind of guitar lines that the Beach Boys' used early on. "Oh If I Was 20 Again" is quite fun.

Das Kosmodrom dotdotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

Dark and heavy, and drenched in boomy track-wide digital 'verb, this riff rocker takes on an ominous tone that's pretty compelling. The thunder of the reverb murk would normally be a negative that hides the track, but the way it's used here, Die Kosmonauten have created quite a heavy threatening piece. Unique and cool!

Draufganger dotdotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

Mid tempo spy epic with with darkness filtered through optimism. It's very surfable with solid espionage roots. Big drama and a vision of a better tomorrow. Great tom toms!

Der Morgen Danach dotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

"The Morning After" is a slow reverber with a softly sad melody and lots of tremolo. It's both soothing and slightly mournful. The big reverb on the tom toms adds a to the emotional drama, though it is a bit heavy handed.

Surfen Auf Der Roten Welle dotdotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

"Surfing On The Red Wave" is a mighty cool surf instro with lots to capture your attention. It's a mid tempo piece with perhaps too much of an ambient wash of reverb, but aside from that, "Surfen Auf Der Roten Welle" is a bright piece with a sunset bay imagery.

Sonnentanz dotdotdotdot
Space Surf (Instrumental)

"Sun Dance" is much gloomier than its title suggests, with heavy tom toms and shimmering tremolo guitar, and occasional evil laughs. A splendid track with a marvelous melody in a Middle Eastern vein. A different is with strong placement of the lead and less track-wash reverb would make this very strong!

Stauseemonster
Space Surf (Instrumental)

"Stauseemonster" (translated by AltaVista as "Artificial Lake Monster") is a fun way to end the disc. Monster growls and screams enhance the bounciness of this semi-bluesy track.
