Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Jars - Surf As Always

 | Three more new tracks from the Jars... like the earlier stuff, this is top drawer. mature writing and playing, and well constructed arrangements, especially the killer "The Fatal Mistake Of Two Gun Buck (He Brought His Guns To Town)." When-oh-when will a real Jars album be released? |
Picks: Midnight Power, Mexican Lowrider, The Fatal Mistake Of Two Gun Buck (He Brought His Guns To Town)
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Moody and sad, this track projects cautious optimism over an underlying danger. It's a mid tempo piece with long sustain and lots of energy. "Midnight Power" was recorded live in rehearsal in August of 2000.
Surf (Instrumental)
Spanish themes, fluid bass lines, shimmering vibrato, and the sadness of a bandito's life. The trumpet adds a sense of adventure, as does the delicate double picking. "Mexican Lowrider" is a real pleasure to listen to, full of imagery, very cool drums, and great watery sound. Recorded in December, 2000 at Sunlight Studios.

Spaghetti Western Surf (Instrumental)
This is among the best spaghetti western tracks I've heard in a while. Great galloping rhythms and thick warm whammy, shallow vibrato and real charm. A little melancholy, a bit dangerous, and very cool. "The Fatal Mistake Of Two Gun Buck (He Brought His Guns To Town)" sports the longest title in a while.
