The Heatscores - Light 'Em Up!!dotdotdotdot
artworkThe Heatscores are from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. This debut is one monster CD. It is a near cousin to surf, with plenty of reverb and surf chunk, and also loads of aggro power and distortion. It fills the space between surf and Huevos Ranchero. All I can say is wow!

Knife Fight At The Wire dotdotdotdot
Hot Rod Aggro (Instrumental)

Whoa! Major crunch and in-your-face power. This fifties boogie ain't no mid century flyweight. More than a progression, and very BIG. It knocks you over with the mid tempo chunk of a bad-ass rock and roll band. Very cool.

Eight Balls Of Fire dotdotdot
Hot Rod Aggro (Instrumental)

Speedy guitar army punkabilly. This progressional number romps with quite a bit of power, like a mid eighties instro. Hot glissandoes and big distortion. The break is really cool with the exotic percussion and nice melody line. In some ways, it has the feel and edge of Armageddon's "Buzzard."

Shot Fulla Holes dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Well, now, isn't this cool. A fun rolling beat, ultra twang, vibrato shimmer, haunting tones, harmonics, plenty of drama, and a really nice spaghetti western riff. This is an utterly magnetic track, with a picturesque plains scene imagery, some western, some Indian, and plenty of open space. Magnificent!

The Spiderwalk dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Damped reverbed backing, a fluid melody line, and a rhythm full of motion present this track with essential surf listening. It's really nice, like maybe a cowboy version of the Space Cossacks. Very cool. Tasty glissandoes, excellent tone, and lots of aquatic power via thundering drums and relentless bass.

Rumbleseat dotdotdotdot
Power Sludge (Instrumental)

Monsters coming your way and no where to go slow dangerous sustained crunch. There's no doubt about the Link Wray influence, but it's also not a Link styled riff. Big drama, and plenty of mean and nasty tone.

Bloody Mary dotdotdot
Thunder (Instrumental)

Speed demon surf and dragstrip assault, power bound and ultra compressed. The keyword here is definitely thunder, and not your distant rumble variety either. This is direct strike fry your eyebrows thunder. Intense and huge.

The Drifter dotdotdotdotdot
Surf Death (Instrumental)

This smooth and moody tune straddles the line between surf and twango, between open road rumble and 50 foot monster surf where no one goes out 'cause it's certain death. Haunted and dangerous. The fuzz break is a nice touch between the surf verses.

Rock N' Roll Sex Party dotdotdotdot
Dark Clouds (Instrumental)

Having just come out of a major thunder storm, this seems like it conveys the warning of such things to come. It's all about danger and edge. Powerfully driven glissandoes and dissonant remorse.

Hot Night At The Whorehouse dotdotdotdot
Rented Surf Rider (Instrumental)

This is a really cool and funky track. It uses a wonderful damped reverbed rhythm and a rolling relentless beat, and it sports images of riding horses on the shore, or maybe being back in the saddle, if you get my drift. Excellent twang and power.

Chopped And Dropped dotdotdotdot
Surf Roadster (Instrumental)

Full throated rock and roll for the lowered street rod on it's way to a place better left unidentified. The tone and tasty guitar work deliver the goods here. Lots of twang and double picked riffs.

The No Tell Motel dotdotdotdot
Surf Roadster (Instrumental)

Slow and suave, with bongos and a fluid funky surfish guitar line. This fine track is a watery escape from the big ones to strollin' on the beach checkin' the bunnies. Very fine.

The Bruce Is Still Loose dotdotdotdot
Fuzzabilly (Instrumental)

Jeepers, what a fun chicken bopper delivered in big distortion, like Los Straitjackets through a fuzz pedal. You can just see the the barn rockin' and the hens swayin' as the roosters strut their stuff. Ultra cool.

The Dr. James Grand Strut dotdotdotdot
Surf Grinder (Instrumental)

This is an interesting track that wanders between pure surf reverb, damped and open, and the big fuzz of the garage. Powerful and very fun.

Light 'Em Up dotdotdotdot
Surf Grinder (Instrumental)

Like a Dick Dale hammer-on through fuzz, this assaultive and relentless track pummels just for the fun of it. Mostly riffs, but so much crunch that it hangs together.
