|This compilation is one of a series Mark Harp (Diamondheads, among many others) put together from his long musical journey (early seventies onward). There's one volume for each of the 24 hours in a day. Only the 9 AM volume contains surf, and then only 4 tracks, but the breadth of the musical styles is very impressive. This one includes a few tracks from his work with the Diamondheads. Mark passed away on Christmas Eve, 2004. He is missed.|
Picks: Dented Fender, Waving, Big Daddy Dirtpile, Night Surf
Track by Track Review
"Dented Fender" displays many changes, with differing guitar dynamics, resulting in different tone, and changes in approach, coupled with great drums and a very interesting bass line make this stand out. Great glissandos and splashy surf power.
"Waving" is soft and slow, with a liquid evening groove that employs soft slow whammy chords and reverb to lull the night into providing a romantic backdrop. Beautiful and islandic!
A circular melody line drives over a tribal beat as the band rips through this classic riff surfer. Bright and abundantly energetic, with a rich textural sound. The Diamondheads make "Big Daddy Dirtpile" sparkle.
This is an after the prom walk home, a surf reinvention of some lost fifties doo-wop romancer. Slow and pretty, with a close dance at hand.
