Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
Wow, what a fun track. The Bangles' "Walk Like An Egyptian" is done with no lack of joy and pure celebration. Guitar runs from Jimi Hendrix ' "Voodoo Child" add a bit of surrealism to this flighty and fun pop masterpiece. Just too cool!
On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Surf (Instrumental)
Slightly dark, this version of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is launched from the classic James Bond riff. Fun and spy-like, with whammy twang.
Surf (Instrumental)
Los Bravos' "Black Is Black" is done with infectious energy, but I think the lead guitar is too low in the mix. The stinging whammy is perfect, and the energy solid. very cool, with great drums and a scenic quality.
Surf (Instrumental)
"The Boys Of Summer" is a lovely track with liquid guitar, stereo delayed rhythm guitar, and a delicate and sensual sound in the beginning that yields to a straight rock beat. Big drama.
Surf (Instrumental)
Dark thundering tremolo throbbing brings on a darkened interpretation of Earl Hagen's classic waterfront epic. Very liquid and moody, with giant reverbed snare.
Theme From A Summer Place

Surf (Instrumental)
Light and liquid pop sounds emanate from this silken delay-twanged cover of Percy Faith's time honored theme. Very pretty.
Surf (Instrumental)
Stereo guitar rhythm, heavy surf lead, dark glissandos, menacing whammy, and more. This is one thick, heavily layered rendering of the Bernice Petiere and Joe Young song that the Ventures turned into a presurf legend. very cool!
Surf (Instrumental)
With a bit of ambient danger yielding to an opening dark glissando, "Beware" uses stereo muted rhythm guitar below a fuzz lead. The lead is a low in the mix, making the rhythm the dominant factor.
Strawberry Fields Forever
Surf (Instrumental)
Just as carnival like as the Beatles' original, but with an attempt to psychedelicize it with modulated guitar. It doesn't really work for me.
Psychedelic Venture
Surf (Instrumental)
Heavily effected guitars in deep ambient reverb make this Ventures song sound more like a dungeon pean than a psychedelic song.
Surf (Instrumental)
Light double picked, almost Italian guitar gently brings on a light and earthy song. The tremolo growl is semi psychedelic, and the song's slow pace gives it danger and edge. Very nice!
Surf (Instrumental)
Henry Mancini's main title theme from the film Hatari is a slow and delicate thing when translated to shimmering tremolo guitar. Very soothing and moody. I always expect "Baby Elephant Walk" when I think of this film.
Born Free
Surf (Instrumental)
This is a light hearted organ rendering of the film's main theme. Not being an organ fan, it doesn't really capture me. The organ warbles in stereo Leslie effect while the rhythm track is pretty straight forward.
Summer Kisses, Winter Tears

Surf (Instrumental)
Sounding like a basic sock instro, this version of "Summer Kisses, Winter Tears" from the soundtrack to Until The End Of The World soundtrack is almost a straight rip-off of Ral Donner's "Suspicion." It's nicely done.
Surf (Instrumental)
This is one spiffy track, with great energy and an attractive sound. The drums rock! "L'Amour Oriental" brought me back a couple of times. Quite nice.
P-47 Republic Thunderbolt

Surf (Instrumental)
The aircraft's engine rumbles, and then the plane passes overhead. The song, once delivered, is a stinging whammy wonderwork, with great energy, a strong beat, and an intense sound. "P-47 Republic Thunderbolt" rocks with power. Way cool!
