Save your dough-boy! The instros are a whale of a lot better than the vocal mung, but save your money. |

Misirlou
Surf (Instrumental)
The playing here is OK, but everything about the arrangement is at odds with the low energy attach. The arrangement is Dick Dale's single, but the meter is crude and the drive too relaxed. The Gym All-Stars employ piano and trumpet, but jeez!
Wipe Out
Surf (Instrumental)
Well, the attempt is here, but this is no more like the real deal than any of those "hits" eps from the day. Too much copy and not enough surf.
Walk Don't Run
Surf (Instrumental)
Johnny Smith's "Walk Don't Run" is done with The Ventures' 1960 arrangement in mind, but it lacks the edge and charm. It has that play quiet and the engineer will make it loud sound, except that the engineer was napping.
Pipeline
Surf (Instrumental)
Ultra crappy glissandos echoed and gritty, and played by the lead instead of rhythm guitar. The keys are a reasonable imitation of The Chantays' original - sort of, but it sure is pale. Still, it's better than the other three instros here.
