Gene Gray and his Stingrays - Surf Bunny c/w Surfer's Mooddotdotdotdot
artworkGene Gray's band did not record much, issuing just one single (on 2 labels). The sound on this single is the quintessential garage surf band. It's the sound UK punk bands strove for in the late 70's with their back-to-four-track ethic. "Surf Bunny" has remained one of my favorite surf records since it was issued in March 1963 on the Linda label.
Picks: Surf Bunny, Surfers Mood

Surf Bunny dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Surf Bunny" is one of the great surf obscuros, full of raw power, spirited vocal eruptions from Gene, and a really grungy sound. This record has been on my top 20 list since it's release in '63.

Surfers Mood dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

"Surfers Mood" owes it's existence to Link Wray's "Rumble," and as such is not particularly interesting. This is the B-side to the incredible "Surf Bunny."
