General Bastard - The War On Sissy Rock - 13 Surf Trash Party Hitsdotdotdot
artworkThree instros grace this set of mostly surf punk based songs. The vocals are very fun in the way The Dead Milkmen or DI used to rock the world. A disturbed and fun CD.
Picks: General Bastard Boogie, Surf Bitch Surf, Thankskilling Theme

General Bastard Boogie dotdotdot
Surf Punk (Instrumental)

"General Bastard Boogie" runs slowly in a dark place, with glissandos and riffs on heavy drums and punky tone. Some flying, highly compressed guitar lines drive the middle to the line. Aggressive in a sludgy way, with a bit of flash, and more guitar skill than the vast majority of instros in the key of punk.

Surf Bitch Surf dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is surprisingly more traditional than any of the other instro tracks General Bastard has cut. Whammy chords shimmer, a cool melody ride the woodie, and muted notes tell the tale. Maybe a bit spy-like, "Surf Bitch Surf" is a charming number in the AABA tradition.

Thankskilling Theme dotdotdot
Surf Punk (Instrumental)

Heavy, dark, drum boomed, and well metered, "Thankskilling Theme" carries a dangerous message. It's more riffy than I generally like, but there are enough changes in guitar delivery and rising drama to keep it interesting. You can imagine a toxic beach in post destruction world, or maybe the real sound of the cult classic Surf Nazis Must Die!
